CNN host Don Lemon caused a stir over the weekend after agreeing with recent comments Fox News' Bill O'Reilly made regarding Black people. Lemon's cosign during his “No Talking Points” segment came under fire from peers in the field and throughout social media. And it appears that Lemon isn't backing down from his statements. Last Saturday (July 27), Lemon played back a clip of O'Reilly saying that “the disintegration of the African-American family” is what's destroying the Black community, along with slamming drug culture and so-called “gangsta culture.” Lemon responded to O'Reilly's rant by saying, “He's got a point. In fact, he's got more than a point. In my estimation, he doesn't go far enough.”
To be fair, Lemon also threw a shot at conservative media, saying the Right conveniently covers Black crime on their media channels when they can apply the problem strictly to the community. Although many pundits and hosts from the Left spoke up against O'Reilly's initial statements, the response to Lemon's comments garnered a harsh response as well. Lemon fired back on those critics last night (July 28), sticking to his words without breaking a stride. ESPN columnist L.Z. Granderson and GOP operative Ana Navarro were back as guests for the segment. Granderson supported Lemon's stance on sagging pants, stating he's instructed his son to correct his look to which Lemon chimed in immediately. “What is wrong with telling people to dress appropriately? These are things that I said yesterday that my mom taught me in kindergarten,” said Lemon “Dress nicely, speak well, speak appropriately.” Navarro, a Hispanic woman, and Granderson, who is Black, both aligned themselves with Lemon's words. However, a notable voice from MSNBC took to Twitter and called the Lemon a “turn coat mofo.” Goldie Taylor tweeted, “Heard Lemon remarks. There is nothing I can say. Yet. I just have to wonder. Exactly which America does he live in?” Watch Lemon's “No Talking Points” rebuttal below.
